Update on Jimmy

Jimmy was adopted into a great home on 16th October. Despite having been given the all clear by his Gold Coast vet for him to be safe to travel after his eye injury (for which he received seven vet visits while in our care), as fate would have it, the eye went downhill very quickly after moving to his beautiful new home. In a very short amount of time it developed into a ‘melting ulcer’ a very urgent condition in which the eye layers literally burst. Jimmy had two options: travel down to Brisbane immediately for emergency eye surgery or to have the eye removed. It was simply logistically not possible to get him from Childers to Brisbane overnight, and there was no guarantee that the surgery (in the realm of $5,000) would be successful. So it was agreed that having his eye removed was the best option.

This was very stressful for everyone involved, not least of all Jimmy, who had so recently moved to a new environment in which he was not familiar, with a paddock mate he’d only just met, and for his new people, who were shocked and distressed to find their new friend in such a predicament.

It was a very, very unfortunate, unlucky and shocking turn of events for us all.

All our horses are adopted under a lifelong lease contract, and there is a 28-day clause for the adopting people to return their horse to us for a full refund. After much consideration, Deb and MarcĀ have decided that it would be in Jimmy’s best interests for him to return to our care. Charlie’s Angels will also, of course, pay for his surgery as this couldn’t have been predicted by anyone and we will always do the best thing by our horses and our people wherever we can. We’d like to thank Deb and Marc for taking such great care of Jimmy while he was in their care.

Jimmy will return to Amber’s care on the Gold Coast. He should be home again with us this weekend.

  1. Breanna and I are terribly sad at this sudden turn of events. He is a dear boy. We wish you all the best in caring for him, Amber – Beverley
