Charlie’s Angels welcomed the news on Friday 27th November that jumps racing in Victoria is to be banned.
The board of Directors at Racing Victoria Limited made an announcement that 2010 would be the last season for Victorian jumps racing.
Michael Duffy, Chairman of the Board, said, “Despite the implementation of all of the safety recommendations of the Jones Report conducted in 2008, the incidence of falls and fatalities has continued to increase. The recommendations of six previous reviews had been implemented without any sustained reduction in incident rates.”
We would like to thank Victoria Racing for taking this matter so seriously and helping to protect the welfare of horses in Australia. This decision comes not long after significant changes have been made to the way whips are used in horse racing. Of course, we would like to see more done. But we aren’t above celebrating these two significant moments in horse racing history.
South Australia will be the only state left in Australia operating jumps racing. You can help put an end to SA jumps racing here.
